Goals and characteristics
The goal of this fellowship is to provide a comprehensive postgraduate experience in sports medicine. This involves imparting skills in the following areas:
- Clinical evaluation of operative and nonoperative patients both in the office and on-field setting.
- Nonoperative management
- Operative management, including open and arthroscopic techniques
- Postoperative management including rehabilitation techniques and modalities
- Organizational management of a sports medicine facility
- Original research
The Center for Athletic Medicine is a new 6,000 square foot facility which provides comprehensive sports medicine care, including primary care, psychological care, podiatry, nutrition, athletic training, and physical therapy on-site.
Fellows participate in the medical care of athletes including those of the Chicago Fire Major League Soccer, DePaul, University, several area colleges, and a number of local high schools.
The program is affiliated with the University of Illinois at Chicago. Fellows participate in educational programs and research activities both at the University and in the clinic.
A permanent Illinois license is required.
This fellowship is ACGME accredited.
